You might find this map useful for locating the cottage when you get to Blaenau Ffestiniog. If you travel to the cottage by train, you will arrive at Blaenau Ffestiniog Railway Station. From here you will be able to get a taxi or a local bus that runs once per hour and will drop you at the top end of Tanygrisiau. The bus-stop is just a few metres up the road from the end of West End Terrace where the cottage is. Local Travel Services: From Blaenau Ffestiniog you have a choice of transport to take you around the area if you do not have a car. From Blaenau Ffestiniog you can get coaches, buses and trains. The one link that I have found when performing a Google search you can see by clicking or on Local Travel Services. Whatever means of transport you use to travel to the cottage you might want to hire bikes locally. I cannot vouch for this service; it is a site I found when conducting a search. Driving to Tanygrisiau. Tanygrisiau is situated approximately one mile southwest of Blaenau Ffestiniog on the A496. If you are travelling along the A5 towards Corwen, then instead of continuing to Betyws-y-coed and then along the A470 through Dolwyddelan, you could try an alternative route that takes you through miles of open moorland. Reproduced from Ordnance Survey map data by permission of Ordnance Survey, © Crown copyright The alternative route from Corwen (especially in the daytime) is to take the A494 or B4401 to Bala and from Bala take the A4212. Travel along this road approximately 0.6 miles and fork left and travel along the west side of Llyn Celyn. At the end of this road, cross over the A4212 and continue along the B4391 towards Blaenau Ffestiniog. It is possible to branch off as you come into Ffestiniog. You can turn left half a mile before Blaenau Ffestiniog so as to avoid all populated areas. After taking this route, when you arrive at the cottage, it will leave you with a feeling of remoteness. We will happily provide you with a more detailed route on request. Reproduced from Ordnance Survey map data by permission of Ordnance Survey, © Crown copyright The
easiest
approach to the
cottage at the final stage is to turn off the A496 and take the road
leading to the hydro-electric power station You will come to a
cafe after which there is a sharp right turn. Cross over the railway
track and continue for 350 metres until you cross over a bridge and
come to a T-junction. Turn right and ‘West End’ is approxiamtely 50
yards after the first turning which is South Street. An ashphalt drive leads you
to the rear of the terrace as shown in the photograph below.
You have arrived! This is the service road at the rear of West End Terrace. |
